Joan Coma was charged with incitement to sedition by the Spanish Government in March, 2016 because of comments he made in a plenary session of the Vic City Government supporting a Resolution approved by a majority vote of the Catalan Parliament, in which he stated that civil disobedience was an option. He was called to testify in Madrid on October 25, 2016 and decided that he would not go, that his comments were a matter of public record, and that he need not justify his support for freedom of expression.
