18th Century. The poll tax: Philip V punishes Catalonia

Catalonia has suffered an unfair treatment in fiscal matters since its defeat in 1714 until today.

Since the current financial crisis began, the debate about the economic discrimination that Catalonia suffers has become a major concern in Catalan society.
In fact, this is a situation that began three centuries ago, when Catalonia, its side having lost in the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714), was punished by a series of economic impositions. These impositions, adapted to changing times, continued to be applied throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
