Area Catalans gathered to celebrate Midsummer’s Night on Sunday in Cambridge

A group of Catalans living in the Boston area, along with a few Americans, gathered on Sunday at the Student Center at MIT in Cambridge to celebrate Saint John’s Day, also known as Midsummer’s Day, the longest day of the year. This traditional holiday is celebrated in Catalonia with bonfires, firecrackers, and the spreading of the Canigó Flame.

This year, the local chapter of the Catalan National Assembly in Boston also collected signatures for the “Sign for a vote” campaign. The campaign is based on the right to petition and, in the event that the Spanish government refuses to allow such a vote, asks and authorizes the Catalan Parliament to declare Catalonia’s independence.
